Private lessons enabled her to receive a diploma from a high school for boys, which cleared her path to study medicine at the Ludwig Maximilian University. She married a fellow student Franz Wirz in 1917, the same year she received her license. Perhaps because she was married,<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--expands-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"1\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004f00000000000000000_840\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004f00000000000000000_840-1\">1<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004f00000000000000000_840-1\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"1\">Munson, Kitty, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikitree.com\/wiki\/Thannhauser-3\"> Bella Thanhauser<\/a>, accessed July 31, 1923. Kitty Munson has extensively chronicled her family history. Regarding Bella Thanhauser: \u201cOnce married, it was normal for a wife to stay home and take care of the house and children in those days so she did.\u201d<\/span> she worked as an <em>unpaid<\/em> assistant physician in the outpatient clinic of the Dr. von Haunerschen Kinderspital (Dr. von Hauner Children\u2019s Hospital) until 1919.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--expands-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"2\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004f00000000000000000_840\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004f00000000000000000_840-2\">2<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004f00000000000000000_840-2\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"2\">Autenrieth, Andrea, <a href=\"https:\/\/edoc.ub.uni-muenchen.de\/14671\/1\/Autenrieth_Andrea.pdf\"><em>\u00c4rztinnen und \u00c4rzte am Dr. von Haunerschen Kinderspital, die Opfer nationalsozialistischer Verfolgung wurden<\/em><\/a>. Dr. Wirz managed an infant welfare clinic in Munich until 1928. She divorced in 1928. After more unpaid work at the St\u00e4dtische Kinderklinik (Municipal Children\u2019s Clinic) in D\u00fcsseldorf for 2 years, she moved with her daughter to Berlin, where, between November 1929 and April 29, 1930, she worked under Heinrich Finkelstein, a pioneer in pediatric nutrition. In 1933, the pair emigrated to Palestine. On April 4, 1942, Dr. Wirz\u2019 sister, Josepha,<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--expands-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"4\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004f00000000000000000_840\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004f00000000000000000_840-4\">4<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004f00000000000000000_840-4\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"4\"><a href=\" https:\/\/www.bundesarchiv.de\/gedenkbuch\/en981227 \"><em>Josepha Thannhauser\/981227, <\/em><\/a>Das Bundesarchive Gedenkbuch, Victims of the Persecution of Jews under the National Socialist Tyranny in Germany 1933 \u2013 1945. Three months later, the Wirz sisters\u2019 mother committed suicide in Munich.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--expands-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"5\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004f00000000000000000_840\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004f00000000000000000_840-5\">5<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004f00000000000000000_840-5\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"5\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bundesarchiv.de\/gedenkbuch\/en981230 \"><em>Lina Karolina Thannhauser\/981230, <\/em><\/a> ibid. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"indentpara\">Dr. Wirz had a long career in Jerusalem in family, as well as sports, medicine. (She was herself a member of a synchronized swim team.) Around 1936, she moved to an apartment in 8 Keren Kayemet Street in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ismardavidarchive.org\/indexofnames\/rehavia\/\">Rehavia<\/a>. Ismar David rented studio space from her in the basement of the building. He lived in 8 KKL Street with Dr. Wirz and her daughter from the late 1930s until he spent a year and a half working for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ismardavidarchive.org\/indexofnames\/israel-exposition\/\">Bonds of Israel<\/a> in the United States and, ultimately emigrated in 1952.
